Music

The music program at St. Mark’s is integral to the worship experience. The primary objective is to enhance the worship experience.

At. St. Mark’s, the 8:00 am Rite I service includes organ prelude and postlude, as well as quiet reflections during the offertory and the communion.

The 10:30 am Rite II service is enhanced by an eclectic and varied selection of music from the traditional hymns of the 1982 Hymnal to the gospel sounds of Lift every voice and sing. All hymnal publications from the Episcopal publishing house, Church Publishing Inc, are utilized in the liturgical plan including the two mentioned, plus Voices Found, Wonder, Love, and Praise, andEnriching our Music I and II. Resources borrowed from other traditions are used as well.

The 10:30 am service is a Choral Eucharest with settings selected from a wide variety of sources. In addition, the Psalm is normally canted.

The music for this service is led by the choir, a group of interested and talented parishioners as well as professional singers from the community. St. Marks has a strong Patron of the Arts program which provides the financial resources for the music program. Instrumentalists and groups of instrumentalists, in addition to singers, often complement the services.
